La Dolce Vita
The word 'excitement' suddenly proved to be an inadequate use of nouns to describe what it was like to pull out a pair of shoes and see your name, glittering back in gold print on a crimson insole, staring back at you. This happened on a day not too long ago in Los Angeles when I first visited the crew from Shoes of Prey, Australian e-commerce start-up, with whom I have teamed up to create my very own limited edition five piece capsule collection with entitled 'La Dolce Vita'.
Sipping coffee in Rome back in July I heard the ever occurring "zing" on my phone indicating a full inbox. The first subject was that of a Shoes of Prey email inviting me to come onboard this project, so excited (nope, still doesn't cut it) I read and re-read the email before I could react. That same day, on the way back to Positano on the Amalfi coast, I figured it was only fitting that my designs be inspired by the rich, luxurious culture of the south of Italy. Think tactile elements like velvets and suedes in jewel tones, like emerald and ruby.
It's important to mention the sheer genius of the Shoes of Prey brand, which has managed to tap women all around the globe, all connected by inspiration, creativity and yes, a deep, deep love for shoes, allowing customers to create their own with an online 3D design tool. Spearheaded by Jodie Fox, co-founder and a woman I have become so inspired by and as a self-confessed tech geek who will gladly choose watching videos of Elon Musk guesting at a convention to talk about his latest space travel efforts over any sort of social life it was so enlightening to become immersed in the world of this online retailer founded on a customisation business model and all the new technologies that are being utilised in order to bring customers new, interesting yet still luxurious methods of shopping.
I chatted to WWD and Marie Claire Australia, both publications that I admire greatly, to have a chat about the journey I've embarked on to get to this point today. That in itself is a huge pinch me moment. It's been an amazing process and an incredible learning curve so I hope you'll all check out my collection, please let me know what you think!
I'm sure you've all noticed the change in Miss Jones, so while you're at it, let me know what you think of it. I'm still ironing out all the bugs as it's been a solo effort to create this but do let me know!
