To celebrate the launch of Maskara, Joanique's latest collection inspired by the Festival of Smiles in Bacolod, Shaira and I travelled to beautiful Intramuros. I wanted to go back to our Spanish and old Manila roots - filled with culture and history - to showcase Malou Romero's nod to the famous festival. Featuring semi precious stones like green and orange aventurine, blue lapis and aquamarine her pieces hint to celebration and for the first time, Joanique has added an array of hand carved wooden minaudieres to her collection all featuring masks which Malou sketched and designed herself. The collection is young, playful and varied it'll make you want every. single. piece. and layer to your heart's content. My personal favourite? The marble Oralee and it's mid-finger counterpart.
