Exhibit A: "Yet with these April sunsets, that somehow recall My buried life, and Paris in the spring, I feel immeasurably at peace, and find the world To be wonderful and youthful after all" - TS Eliot It is unlike any other city I've visited and contrary to what many romantics believe, it is one of the greatest cities to experience sans company. It's as if through solitariness you obscure one of your senses and the others are subsequently awakened; intensified.
Metaphorically blindfolded in Paris during fashion week last March I met Michael Lo Sordo by chance (one of my favourite things about Paris is chance encounters), an Australian designer who at the time was enduring the peak of fashion week anxiety due to some precious lost baggage containing samples. Falling in love with what I now endearingly refer to as the plissé jellyfish dress (see above photos for explanation) he happily leant me a few pieces to shoot in Paris - a brave but gracious move on his part considering we had never met before. That's the beauty of Paris during fashion week; one just gets the other's love for clothes and there's this blanket shift of creativity that occurs and everyone just absorbs and feeds on the elegance of the city and the sights and sounds and atmosphere of Paris. It is, after all, the home of haute couture.
Place Vendome just seemed like the quintessential location for this dress, armed with Rachel Rebibo, photographer extraordinaire and a pre-loved Maison Margiela deconstructed blazer we dodged the morning traffic and braved the cutting chill - Paris apparently choosing to amplify my sense of touch with it's March winter bite.
